Disregard the reviews of anyone who rated this book less than a 5. Books don't get any better than this. Scientology has nothing to do with this book so don't let that keep you from reading this book. Nor does that horrible movie of Battlefield Earth that shouldn't even be called Battlefield Earth because it makes this great book look bad. Anyone who can read should read this book, and those who can't read should learn how to read so that they can read it (seriously!). This book is action-packed is written in an enjoyable writing style. Plus, it is very relevant to life. You feel for the characters and it is like you are in the story. Battle scenes have amazing description. Best book ever! Don't forget it! If your still unsure whether or not to buy it, you should buy it! End of discussion!

I first picked this book up in a used bookstore when I was a senior in High School. Since that time I have read it several times. It is, without a doubt, one of the most entertaining books I have ever read. The story moves along quickly and the characters are fun and the villians are wonderfully clever and ruthless. This book is no pulitzer prize winner, but if you are looking for a book of pure fun and great story-telling, than this is the book for you. This book is a monster of a read but it's a monster of a good time. Enjoy!

Outstanding work by L Ron Hubbard. Combines action, adventure, minor romance, and the ins and outs of the corporate culture we live in. The movie by the same name could not do the book justice (and the movie only encompassed half the book); the detail and the explanations make the story vivid. This was a very enjoyable read for what it is - great science fiction. Also recommended: Mission Earth series (10 volumes)

I am not a sci-fi fan. However, I have read Battlefield Earth twice and listened to the book on tape once. The journey we take with Johnny Good Boy Tyler as he moves from ignorant mountain dweller, to the savior of mankind is interesting and compelling. Each time I have read the book I couldn't put it down, went cover to cover.

One of my all-time favorites. I have read it several times. Even for people who do not usually read Sience Fiction, I will recommend this one.

Horrid. Absolutely horrid. I must first, for honesty's sake, unashamedly admit that gave up on this book at page 511. I figure if you read 500 pages of a book and you still hate it, it is time to quit. The characters the Hubbard portrays are lifeless, cardboard, cliché caricatures. The Psychlos are flat and stupid. To be continually outwitted by a farmboy, using their own technology, was eventually too much to take. Hubbard¿s writing style leaves much to be desired. He uses clichés, is very wordy, and repetitive. It is mind-boggling that he is able to fill so many pages, while saying so little. All that being said, however, my biggest complaint was how unrealistic his character dialog¿s were. No one talks like this. I have seen B-Movies with better dialog. All in all, I would recommend reading ANYTHING else. I have not read a book this bad in memory.

This is an epic Science Fiction book and a must read. 1,000 pages of pure action. The main character is factually up against all odds to save the last of the human race and he has many aliens and other species he's got to contend with. The ending is incredible and you just need to make sure you clear out your schedule when you start this one!

This is the reason I joined 'Library Thing'.The book is so bad that I had to read it all to tell people how bad it is. Without reading it, I could not state a warranted opinion. The only good thing about the author was the way he found the tax avoidance loophole by creating the Church of Scientology. You just gotta give credit where it's due

Let's see: Cardboard characters...check!Unbelievable plot...check!Bad science...check!Poor writing skills...check!Yep, it's got it all. But, by my own standards, I couldn't give it the ½ star rating it really deserves. I had such a sick fascination with it that I actually skimmed through the middle 700 pages to find out how this gobbler was brought to an end. That would make it a 1½ star book. Impossible!...I'll average it to 1 star.Oh, I forgot to mention the introduction Mr. Hubbard wrote for the book that evidenced an ego the size of California.Do not buy this book!

Good science fiction? No. But pure pulp. Fun, stupid read. Just check your brain at the door.

Man, did I love this book. First of all, I was entranced by the way it all worked out, sometimes in ways that I couldn't imagine, yet still logical. I always love to be surprised.Secondly, I loved to watch a struggling underdog overcome the insurmountable odds against him. After I finished reading this book I wanted to put a poster of the main character, Johnny, on my bedroom wall, that's how cool I think he is.And finally, it's HUGE! And that just means there is more of a good thing. So, if you're like me, kinda into science fiction, and you ( thank god ) haven't had your expectations soiled by the god-awful movie, check this book out!

I'm giving this book 5 stars for lack of better option. To say that this book is page turner is understatement. I started to read it and through the first 20 pages I was thinking, hmm... I wonder why all the good reviews and my friend's strong encouraging, It is so boring. I decided to persist for another 10 pages only and that's it. I continued and was on the brink of putting it away... And all of a sudden it started to pick up... OMG... Picking up big time like never before with any other book I ever read. And I reading many page turner books. I started reading in the early evening and finished it by the early morning. Yes, the whole book. Mind you, reading this book is a one sitting reading!!! So whatever you need to do, just do it before starting, because trust me, while reading this book, you will able to do abseloutely nothing except being riveted to the magnificent, very live animated story. Enjoy it. :))

Reading this book is better than going out to the movies; it is so vivid.

First off, let me just say that I truly hope that, when considering this book, people see past the movie rendition by failed director Roger Christian. ( Phantom Menace anyone? ) Once you read the book you will see that cramming everything that happens into two hours is not even close to possible because of the pacing and the depth of the story. This book is truly a masterpiece from start to finish and I have read them all, Bradbury, Asimov, Resnick, Clarke. This story stands out as one of the most grandiose rollicking adventures from start to finish. You will experience a developing plot which changes so so much from the beginning to end all the while filled with suspense. The thing that gets me is not only the overall story line, but the realism. I've read this book 3 times now. Highly recommended.

I read this in 6 days while working full time! Many 2AM mornings! It is more fun to read than anything I have ever read. I reread it years later and it was still my favorite book. The audio tape, I discovered is perfect for long trips! Awesome book!

Thi is a realy good story about Johney Goodboy Tyler, who conkers an alean race called Phychlose. All because of a Phychlo named Terl, who gose on a hunt to capture a man animal, and secsedes in capturing the main cheracter Johney. And uses him to convince more man animals, as a part of his plan to mine a gold deposit that was incoverd on a cliff side after an earthquake. But Terl dose not know that Johney has a counter plan to flush the Phichlose off of the face of earth, but will actualy do mach more than that. Terl traines Johney on how to operat all of the equipment used in the Phichlo mmines scaterd around earth's serfice. When Terl thinkes that Johney's training is done, he takes Johney to one of the skatered tribes/vilages where some of the last man animals have taken refuge and hiding from he terifieng Phichlos. In Scotland. There Johnny fills them in on his plane to take out the Phichlos, and thay agrea to help him. This is a very important part of the story because these Scots will be loyal to Johney untill death threwout the entire story. Johney and the Scots are taken by Terl to what the Phichlos think was a rvery hevaly defended , and very important military base but Johney and the Scots know that it actualy was a Air-force acadimy. Then thay get to work on mining the gold that thay would use as bate on Terl, menewile thay also found old militery wepons like asalt rifles, basookas, and other things from amunition to leaded suites that protects you from radiation. Eventualy finding all of the other tribes of the endangered man animals, and telaporting nuclear bombs on the planet Phichlo causing an efect that I will not tell you, you will have to read it for yourself to find out hint (thay made a new star). After all of this, the story gose on to extend it self and give the rest of the story after the concoring of the Phichlos. There is to much to tell in this part of the story with only 1,375 characters remaining to give this revew so I suggest to you this book it is worth your money unless you do not like sci-fi , action, and cuning plans and warfare as the base of a book.
