He has worked as a journalist, novelist, and translator in the United States, England, and the former Soviet Union. He has written for a wide variety of publications, including the New Republic, the New York Times Magazine, Harper's, and the Saturday Evening Post. He lives in Roxbury, Connecticut.

This is an excellent volume on a little-known battle. It's essential for anyone interested in knowing the true story of the pacific theatre of WWII, as well as anyone who wants to understand one of the main reasons the US decided to drop the atomic bomb.

I sps ent 5 and I/2 years there I can understand why the military still did not want the pilots going into the caves on Okinawa and it had been over fifty years since the war ended. Great book1
