?BAGMAN: The Secret Life of Col. Albert V. Carone?, explores the illegal acts of a U.S. ?shadow government? made up of a hierarchy of Government operatives sworn to absolute secrecy. Based on the sworn testimony of Desiree Carone-Ferdinand - the book traces the life of Col. Carone (her father) from his adoption at age eight by Mafia godfather Vito Genovese to his role in the 1985 mass murder of the entire population of a small Mexican village, Chapatulla. The Chapatulla massacre prompted Carone to cut short his military career and set the stage for his story to be told. The cast of characters in ?BAGMAN? are real people, including three U.S. Presidents, two past Directors of the CIA, Oliver North, Theodore Shackley, the notorious Edwin Wilson and a cast of supporting players including Robert Maheu, who ran the empire of reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes. Desiree Carone-Ferdinand?s family life included Mafia Dons and Directors of the CIA seated at the family dinner table and her father travelling the world, briefcases of drug money handcuffed to his wrist. Ms. Ferdinand?s sworn statements are woven into a narrative of factual political intrigue, corruption and murder not documented since Watergate and ?All The President?s Men.? In an addenda, Stacey includes the sworn affidavits of not only Ms. Carone-Ferdinand, but of Col. William Wilson (who investigated the My Lai massacre for the U.S. Inspector General), an Army Col. who ran two of the secret operations, Col. Edward P. Cotulo, ex-DCI William J. Casey, Col. Carone himself, Carone?s son-in-law, Thomas E. Ferdinand, and the deposition of U.S. Treasury Dept. Investigator William C. Duncan by Arkansas Congressman William Alexander, all of which support Ms. Carone-Ferdinand?s sworn statements.
