A top surgeon teams up with his wife, a veteran network news anchor, to offer a comprehensive plan for overcoming a heart trauma.
A well-known and internationally recognized surgical oncologist, Dr. Marc Wallack kept fit by training as a marathoner. He was the rock of his family, at the top of his career, and an expert on health who practiced what he preached-until he suffered angina symptoms while on a run. Two days later, after discovering his arteries were 95 percent blocked, he underwent quadruple bypass surgery and found himself unprepared for the emotional fallout of his recovery.
In Back to Life After a Heart Crisis, Dr. Wallack and his wife, journalist Jamie Colby, offer their moving personal story along with a one-of-a-kind, prescriptive guide to reclaiming your life after confronting the issues of mortality and vulnerability raised by a traumatic heart event-whether it be a heart attack or a surgical procedure. Brimming with inspiration and encouragement, this unique book shows readers how to regain emotional strength in tandem with healing physically by working through eight important milestones-from sleeping through the night to surviving doctor's appointments to taking on a huge physical challenge.
With sidebars and tips for caregivers, Back to Life After a Heart Crisis helps patients and their loved ones heal hearts and minds and feel vibrant and full of life again.

There are a lot of vivid descriptions of multiple fears. I think its a great book for the caregiver but I would not give it to my husband because I think it would give him fear and anxiety.

Dr. Wallack and his wife have "hit the nail on the head" with this book. Five years ago, I also had open heart surgery (at age 44) and received little or no information from my team of surgeons, cardiologists, nurses, etc. as to what to expect when I came home from the hospital. I suffered severe depression, great anxiety, and many other symptoms that Dr. Wallack and Jamie Colby explain so very well in this book. Hospitals should arrange to give this book to every open heart surgery patient BEFORE their scheduled surgery date, so that the patient will have a better idea of what to expect in the following weeks, months and even years (both physical and psychological symptoms). The dietary ideas are also very helpful... FANTASTIC book, thank you!!
This book is a must have for all cardiac patients and their family members. It answers all the questions you may have. Love all the true feelings revealed to help anyone get Back to Life!
I highly recommend this excellent book to anyone dealing with a serious illness or caring for a loved one through a health crises and the recovery process. Dr. Wallack provides unique insight as a skilled physician who found himself as a patient. Jamie Colby provides the reader with valuable insight on how to be the best care giver and advocate for your loved one and how to handle the mental stress of the operation and recovery experience. As a person with heart issues I am particularly interested in Dr. Wallack's ideas on the process of choosing the best doctor, procedure and hospital. The information both authors provide on diet, physical rehabilitation and mental outlook is wonderful. Purchase this book, we all will deal with serious medical issues in our lives and this book will help you make each day better.
This book is an outstanding book for the patient and especially for the caregiver. Alot of us as caregivers, did not really have a reference that we could rely on. This book is a "must" for all caregivers. It helps you get through what you need to get through each day. The book helps both the patient and caregiver maintain emotional strength for each other. I would strongly recommend this book, if you know of someone going through this, it is the best gift you can give to them...
