Are You Awake recounts a sleepless night between a mother and an inquisitive toddler. The mother slowly wakes up throughout the book while her son asks her many questions. The text solely consists on the dialogue between the characters, each in a different color. On the lower left hand corner of each page layout, a stuffed elephant belonging to the toddler does flips and finally falls asleep, adding a whimsical element to the sleepless night. The sweet narrative of this book celebrates sleepness nights, a common occurrence of parents of young children. I believe it would make an excellent gifts to adult parents of young children.

¿Are you awake?¿ is a cute and humerous story about a little boy named Edward who can¿t fall asleep. Instead he spends the night asking his mother various questions, the most often asked being `why is it still nighttime?¿ The constant questions and his mother¿s simple answers flow together easily just like any conversation a child may have with their parent. It makes it easy to read, easy to follow, and almost has the pages turning by themselves. The illustrations aren¿t big and bright but follow the nighttime theme of the story. It is a good read with one or two children so they can follow along and watch as Edward and his elephant stuffy move around the pages, neither able to sleep or stay still for very long.

Edward is awake. It is nighttime. He wakes his mother up and engages her in conversation for a long time until he finally falls back to sleep. His dad arrives home at the break of day after working all night as a pilot and goes straight to bed. Edward tries to wake his dad up at the conclusion of this story. This story will be a familiar one to parents of young children. Parents will be able to appreciate its realism.¿Mom?Mmm?¿What does your face look like when you¿re asleep?I don¿t know. Why don¿t you?Because I can¿t see.Why can¿t you see?Because it¿s dark¿.¿

Witty, adorable, fun, and perfect bedtime reading for children. We read this book every night for two months before we had to return it to the library. My 5 year old absolutely loves it!
