I really like how on this book opens for discussion on the last page. This would be a great time to allow the students to point out who is who from Amelia's family. This would also be a great writing activity to do with your class by allowing them to name their family members and something that makes them special.

Amelia is taking quite the literal sense on describing her family. Mr. Rogers would like to meet her family for the first time to invite to a party.

Amelia Bedelia goes through her family album with Mr. and Mrs. Roger's who want to throw a party for her family. Amelia shows them pictures of her family and tells them what they do. Mr. and Mrs. Roger's think the good of what Amelia Bedelia tells them about her family but its nothing like what they think. Amelia invites her whole family and the whole neighborhood over for the party. This can be read when teaching about families and making a family tree.

Amelia Bedelia's employers make the mistake of asking about Amelia Bedelia's family. Every time she tells them about someone, it turns out that their careers are not what her employers think (her olive-stuffing niece, doesn't stuff things into olives- she stuffs olives into herself). Finally Amelia is told to invite everyone to her party, and she invites the whole block, not just her whole family.
