Kylie is the singleton (and decidedly so) in our little group of friends. She’s gone the opposite route of her mother – avoiding romantic entanglements as she struggles with a massive childhood-long crush on her boss, and missing her beloved grandfather. She’s poured all of her love into Vinnie – a little mixed breed, totally clumsy dog who once ran into a glass door, and now ‘tests’ every doorway he meets with an upraised paw. A bit more than unconventional, wood shavings and sawdust are never far from her – and while she is truly happy for her friends in love – she’s decided she’ll never have that feeling or security because no one will want her enough. Plenty of emotional trauma – she feels not enough after her mother dumping her with her grandfather, and his death in a fire in the workshop she grew up in. Joe was a kid who grew up too fast and had to take on the responsibility of feeding and housing his father and sister after his mother’s death. His father is suffering from extreme PTSD – and as a kid Joe did everything to keep them fed and his little sister Molly safe. When everything went pear shaped – he had two choices: military or jail. The military brought Joe some control of his temper – and he was a very good soldier – now working as the number two man in Archer’s security company – he’s a point man on most of the difficult assignments, and completely able to keep his mind on his job. But his sister’s injuries are riding him hard – his guilt over that, and the worries that anyone close to him is in danger keeps him at arm’s length from anything real with a woman. Until Kylie. When after a kiss – he can’t get her out of his mind. With Molly’s birthday coming up, and her wanting a mirror that Kylie made – Joe agrees to ‘help’ Kylie find a token, the only piece of her grandfather she has left, now being held for ransom – ransom paid with her authentication of a formerly ‘lost’ piece from her famous grandfather and a lower-quality piece of work – both set to be sold at auction in a few weeks. Oh these two are so stubborn – Joe has never met anyone more determined, more headstrong or even more intrusive in his work or life. He can’t stop thinking about her, and trying to protect her – even when she refuses to follow instructions or let him quietly find the little penguin carving and the miscreant who stole it. He’s intrigued and entranced by her: her look, her humor – even the crazy wigs she drags out for ‘disguises – and she asks questions that hit right at his heart – questions he’s not always ready to answer. The two are so closed off and busy denying the connection between them – they are pieces that fit together – the last in the puzzle that is their lives – and it takes almost losing one another and strong words from Joe’s team-members and sister, as well as careful and considered levels of fear of the women in this little Cow Town community of friends and manufactured family that has them finally finding the truth. Again, Shalvis has led us to yet another connection brought together by proximity and circumstance, tempered with friends, family and love, and perhaps a bit of magic from the fountain. I love this series and story – while the other couples are making small cameo appearances and moments that show support – this book fits perfectly into the series and gives us yet another ‘couple’ in this building full of people – once strangers, now family. What makes reading fun is watching an author explore new directions. About That Kiss is Jill Shalvis veering into new territory, but reminding readers, she has the talent to back it up. While keeping with tradition and seducing our socks off, Joe and Kylie add some mystery to the lovable canvas of Heartbreaker Bay. What began with a kiss grew in a most intriguing way. From a scene stealing dog, to a curmudgeonly father, a flighty mother and a missing penguin, Ms. Shalvis keeps the charm while adding a hint of suspense. What I enjoy most about the crew from Heartbreaker Bay is that they show how love can build a family. Blood may not bind them but heart does.

About That Kiss is the 5th book in the Heartbreaker Bay Series. It's a Rom-Com with some suspense thrown in. This book is amazing and it hits all the emotional switches! Joe Malone is one heck of a sexy man and he's had his eye on Kylie now for a year, he kisses her and it rocks his world but he never calls afterwards. Kylie forces that kiss and Joe out of her memory bank until he shows up 3 days later looking for a birthday present for his sister. She in turn she needs a major favor because her precious memento of her grandpa's has been stolen and Kylie knows that Joe's finder and fix it skills will come in handy. So, they both put aside feelings and come to a agreement of sorts. Joe isn't a forever kind of guy and Kylie deserves a man who will stick around. But everything about Kylie makes focusing impossible. He's never had this problem before. There is just something about her that makes him different and he can't help falling for her. Joe and Kylie start the hunt for her stolen penguin and discover new and interesting things about each other along the way. So, instead of getting over that one perfect kiss they decide to keep kissing and maybe improve on it.

Heartbreaker Bay Book Five Kylie Masters can't stand Joe Malone, especially after he completely ignores their shared kiss. When Joe shows up in her shop to buy a hand-carved mirror for his sister, Kylie decides she will ignore it, as well. Joe is determined to keep her at arm's length, but when her grandfather's gift to Kylie is stolen and used to leverage her into authenticating his work, Joe cannot ignore her. Kylie and Joe track down all of her grandfather's former contacts to determine which one is taunting her. If you've been interested in the hard-working wood carver and the mysterious second in command security specialist, this is the book you've been waiting for!

About That Kiss by Jill Shalvis Series: Heartbreaker Bay #5 5 Stars - I truly love this series! The characters are all wonderful and with every book I read, I just end up looking forward to which character’s story could come next! I was happy to see that Joe got his own book. He was a great lead and while I think Kylie was a bit careless with having to tag along on the job all the time, I thought she was a good match for him. They had great chemistry and made me laugh more than once. I loved the banter between all the characters, loved the hashtags at the beginning of each chapter, and overall the book was well written and thoroughly enjoyable. Can’t wait for the next one! ~Paragraphs and Petticoats~

I usually enjoy this author but not in this case. A lot longer than it needed to be. Every chapter seemed to have a sexual encounter and as it progressed it seemed as rhough I was reading the same chapter over and over.

Jill Shalvis is my go to author for funny and sweet romances. As with the Lucky Harbor series, Heartbreaker Bay revolves around a group of friends who work within the same complex of buildings circling a magical fountain. In each of the previous books, a wish for true love was made and that wish was granted. In About That Kiss, neither Kylie nor Joe actually makes that wish. It is made for them by someone else. Thank goodness, because these two both have a ton of baggage. It seemed to take that mystical push to get them to admit to any feelings for each other, and a ton of chemistry that they couldn’t keep ignoring. Joe seemed like a good guy to have around in a crisis and Kylie has a crisis that needs handling. Joe is the last person she wants to ask for help because, well, after that one kiss they shared he never called her back! However, this crisis is emotionally daunting and Kylie overlooks her own feelings in favor of getting something back that has been stolen from her. I enjoyed this book because like I said above, Jill Shalvis writes great light hearted romances. I think the heart part of light hearted was a little lacking because both of these characters had walls a mile high! It took chemistry and being forced together by Kylie’s problem to make either of them act on it. About that Kiss doesn’t land in my top 5 Jill Shalvis novels, but it was a quick read and in the end I got the Happily Ever After I was looking for. Oh! I also got to look in on the rest of the gang in Heartbreaker Bay and see how they were doing. I do love the friendships in these books.

Ever since Joe Malone and Kylie Masters shared that earth shattering kiss outside of the bar, they avoid each other like the plague. Neither of them ever expected a kiss would make them feel all those feelings. Kylie couldn't understand why Joe wouldn't talk to her. Joe Malone is a loner. He was in the Army's special forces, did a stint in the MMA and now works for Archer at his security/investigation company. Joe also is Molly's brother. When Joe needs to get Molly a birthday present, a mirror that Kylie made at her woodworking shop, Joe must finally talk to Kylie. I just loved the smart aleck banter between these two! When something important to Kylie goes missing, she makes a deal with Joe....he helps her find her penguin and she will make Molly a mirror. Kylie insists on being with Joe every step of the investigation. This of course causes a lot of great moments between the two of them. As they spend more time together, their feelings start to come out. This was such a fun, sexy story. I loved these two characters. They were both stubborn but so great together. The added mystery with the penguin was fun. Overall, another great story by Jill Shalvis!

Review written by Marie for Ever After Book Reviews! 4.5 Stars! Adorable. If I could choose one word to describe this book, it’s adorable. These two characters were made for each other. A strong, funny and capable hero and a spunky, head-strong heroine who find themselves getting way more than they bargained for in each other… perfection. Ms. Shalvis has always been a master of her craft. The way she writes contemporary romance is highly entertaining and always makes you feel so good when you’re finished reading. With About That Kiss, she does just that. I laughed, I swooned, and I cheered on Kylie and Joe, as they share silly and cute moments, steamy kisses, and, ultimately, an incredible passionate romance. When you’re looking for a contemporary romance that will make you feel good and smile, Jill Shalvis and About That Kiss is just what you’re after!

Kylie and Joe share a mind blowing kiss and then try to pretend it didn’t happen. Kylie needs Joe’s help in recovering a wooden penguin carved by her grandfather. Soon she has Joe wrapped around her little finger. I giggled through this book at witty dialogue and wished for Old Man Eddie’s penny thrown into the fountain to work.

4 1/2 STARS! Delectably sweet and oh so good! With the our latest trip to Heartbreaker Bay, we get to reconnect with all of the old gang and watch another couple fall into the throes of a passion that leads them to that happily ever after they both swear they don't want. Joe Malone is sexy and tough and super protective of those he loves ... but Kylie is independent as all get out and that protectiveness of his just might drive her crazy! When someone sets out to hurt Kylie, Joe steps in to help her get to the bottom of who is playing games and why. The story is easy to get hooked on and the characters are very enjoyable. Lots of drama to keep us on our toes, and a sweet love story to boot! Tough guy Joe Malone takes being a protector seriously, so when he finds out that Kylie needs help with a threat, he's there! So she's mad at him that he didn't call her after the super hot kiss they shared the other day ... what's a guy to do? He's not the type to settle down and fall in love, and Kylie isn't the type to deserve less than his all. She'll have to forgive him ... especially if he's helping her ... right? Spitfire Kylie Masters is going to make that man pay for ignoring her if it's the last thing she does! Like she can't have a good time and walk away as good as the rest? HA! Let's see how good he is at resisting her when she's by his side every day as they set out on a mission to find her cherished piece of the past!

This fun, feel good romance is exactly why Jill Shalvis is an auto-buy for me. Sexy former military guy with commitment issues and a shy woodworking artist find a way in this fun romp. I loved it and will re-read again and again.

4 1/2 stars Recently I referred to a novel as romance comfort food, which it was. However, About That Kiss by Jill Shalvis is romance comfort food for an entirely different reason. When I pick up a Shalvis novel, I know that I am going to be treated to a combustible couple, comprised of a sexy man and a strong, confident woman who find each other at the end with a few laughs and adventure (of various types) along the way. About That Kiss did not disappoint. As the 5th entry in the Heartbreaker Bay series, this reader has come to know and enjoy the characters, so much so that I am anticipating rereading the whole series when it's completed just because I want to go back and see how the characters have evolved. On the flipside, I do believe that you can read this as a standalone because it's a complete story, but would suggest for maximum enjoyment reading the other novels--because you won't be disappointed. Unless sexy humorous romances are not your thing. While I was reading about Joe, the ex-military man, and Kylie, the woodworker, I thought Shalvis should write a mystery because About That Kiss was in part a mystery, which she completely pulled off. And, she could write about military men because she drew Joe as ever-so-sexy and competent. In fact, I'm wondering if Shalvis takes requests. Another element that sets Shalvis above many other romance writers is that her women are strong. I like that they take a step back from a situation, evaluate it, and realize: no, I deserve more than that. These are not damsels in distress or victims. Kylie knows what she wants and goes after it, not aggressively, but pointedly. They are human. They have vulnerabilities. But these are most definitely not women to be dragged around by their hair. Thank you! The only thing I waffled about with regard to About That Kiss was the eventual rating. I admit that I don't compare Shalvis to any other romance writer any more with regard to ratings because it wouldn't be fair...to the other writers. Now, I just compare Shalvis to herself. I had such affection for Chasing Christmas Eve, which I reviewed here back in September 2017 that it might be hard for any of her other novels to compete, except this one nearly did. I adored Joe and Kylie and loved the mystery and adventure, but I counted only one laugh-out-loud moment (another Shalvis trademark, the lol, not there only being one). If you've never read a Jill Shalvis novel, but adore romantic comedies, give this series a try. I promise you won't regret it. Romantic comedy comfort food. Yum. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Sascha Darlington

Favorite Quotes: Do me a favor and don’t compare me to the women you date… Or whatever you do with them. We all know the only reason you even remember their names is that you take them to the coffee shop in the morning and then read what gets written on their cup. She told me not to mistake her silence for weakness, that no one plans a murder out loud. I actually like being single. I get to be selfish with my time and personal space. I can leave the top off the toothpaste and sleep like a starfish. “Don’t worry honey,” someone said from behind her in line. Eighty-something Mrs. Winslow, who lived on the third floor of the building. The older woman smiled knowingly. “He’ll appreciate your toys. But remember, it’s all fun and games until someone loses the key to the handcuffs.” I know diamonds are supposed to be a girl’s best friend… but then leggings happened. Leggings are the new diamonds. My Review: This was my first Jill Shalvis experience, silly me, I have been missing out. I adored her clever wry humor, breezy storytelling, and endearingly flawed and quirky characters. About That Kiss was a delightfully entertaining and engaging read that was easy to follow and never failed to hold my interest. Despite being the fifth book in a series, the story stood alone and on solid terra firma. And I while I never felt lost or confused without previous knowledge, I am sure I would enjoy going backward and acquainting myself with the earlier stories of this lively and alluring group. Each chapter was titled with a popular line from a movie that never failed to bring a smirk to my face if one wasn’t already in place. More, please.

After devouring Holiday Wishes and Chasing Christmas Eve this past fall, About That Kiss was incredibly high on my January 2018 wish list. I couldn't wait to see what romance would swoop through Heartbreaker Bay next. WHAT I LIKED: 1. The Characters - I loved Kylie and Joe in the past books so I was beyond excited to have an entire book focused on them. Kylie is sweet, lovable, and incredibly loyal - she's someone you'd want on your side for sure! I also appreciated that she was by no means a pushover. She knew what she wanted, and she'd do anything to achieve it. Joe, on the other hand, is aloof and headstrong. He's used to doing things his way; however, Kylie knocks him on his feet in that regard. I loved seeing Joe's sweeter side come out as the book progressed. He was quite the sweetheart deep down, and I admired his dedication in helping Kylie find her lost penguin. 2. The Romance - The romance starts with a hot, steamy kiss in a back alley and then fizzles into a mess of mixed signals and complicated feelings....and I LOVED seeing Joe and Kylie bounce back from that. It was easy to tell that they were perfect for each other. The only problem? They were too stubborn to admit it. I loved the banter between the two as well as the chemistry. It was always fun to see Kylie refuse to take the lead on the investigation - she insisted on being part too! 3. The Mystery - About That Kiss features a mystery, and as an avid mystery lover, I was super excited about that aspect. In the beginning of the book, Kylie has one of her most prized possessions (a wooden penguin from her late grandfather) stolen from her, and while some may think a wooden penguin would be a silly thing to be upset about, Kylie is determined to get it back even if it means recruiting Joe for help. At first, I thought the mystery would be easy to solve. How many people would want a wooden penguin? However, I was wrong. Joe and Kylie go on an exciting hunt to find it, and given the surplus of quirky suspects and mysterious, threatening letters, it was a ton of fun to read about! 4. The Family - Just like with Jill Shalvis's past books, About That Kiss has a strong family feel. I loved learning more about Joe's family life, and I especially loved seeing him interact with his father and sister. Those two definitely kept Joe on his toes! I also enjoyed seeing Kylie become part of the family as well. Kylie, on the other hand, has always had a complicated family life: her grandfather raised her while her mother did her own thing. It's incredibly easy to see how much Kylie loved her grandfather, and my heart broke that she felt guilt over his sudden death. I just wanted to give her a hug! I also liked how Kylie began to mend fences with her mother over the course of the book. WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: 1. The Pacing - It took me a while to get fully invested in About That Kiss because of the pacing. It started off slightly slow and took a while to build up. Not the biggest problem overall; however, I wish there had been a tad bit more zazz in the beginning. The overall result? Just as swoony and charming as its predecessors, About That Kiss is yet another must read from Jill Shalvis!

What I have always liked about Jill Shalvis' books is that there is always a group of close knitted people who always stand by each other and are always there for each other, be it friends or family. I just love reading about how this group of friends in Heartbreaker Bay bond together. And of coz, there's always that explosive chemistry between the hero and heroine in Ms Shalvis' stories and Joe and Kylie are no exception. There chemistry could just ignite a room and you would just want to read on and see how their relationship progress. Definitely five stars for this story and I can't wait to read more of Ms Shalvis' books.

About That Kiss does not disappoint!! You can always count on Jill Shalvis for an entertaining and engrossing read. Her characters are always engaging and she goes in depth to make you feel like you know them. I particularly like the fact that Kylie has an unusual profession for a woman, woodworking. And Joe's not just a former military turned security guy. There's such depth to the characters, even the secondary characters. It's more than just a story of the relationship between Kylie and Joe. Without giving everything away, About That Kiss gives you attraction, intrigue, heartache, and hope. Truly a book that will keep you up past your bedtime reading.

I've been a fan of Jill Shalvis for several years now. She can always be relied upon for an entertaining, sexy and satisfying read. The way both Joe and Kylie were very honest and upfront with each other almost from the start was refreshing. I enjoyed the mystery of Kylie's missing keepsake - the culprit was not who I halfway expected it to be - I like when the outcome is unpredictable. This book had me laughing out loud in several spots and I love the peripheral characters and look forward to reading their stories too. Whether you're an established Jill Shalvis fan or a new-to-her reader, About That Kiss is a must-read.

This is the newest story in the Heartbreaker Bay series and it's another winner by Jill Shalvis! I enjoy how she mixes humor, mystery and a great cast of characters. The way this group has come together as family and are always there for each other is great. Their dialogue and interactions will keep you laughing and turning pages! Definately one of my favorites in this series! I read an Advance Copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Another Heartbreaker Bay favorite! This series is just so great to me. There's friendships, relationships, animals, alcohol and it's in San Francisco - which is very close to where I live. So it's totally easy for me to imagine this place that sorta looks like the Melrose Place set up; open courtyard, fountain, etc. Joe is the definition of tall, dark, strong and handsome. At least how I envision him. And Kylie is gorgeous in her own understated way that Joe sees. They shared a kiss but after lack of contact, Kylie has written it and Joe off. Except now she needs his help and he's the best person for the job - even though he tries to keep her out of helping. I cannot express just how much I love these characters and the community of Heartbreaker Bay. They're like one big family who love and care for each other but also can get on each other's nerves as only close friends and family can do. Another series to re-read when I need a good, sweet, funny story!
