"When I read A Shade of Vampire I fell in love ... A Shade of Blood is twice as intense and a dozen times more emotional ... The two things I love most about this series, aside from my love of Derek and Sofia, are the intricate plot and the character development ... Mind officially blown is all I can say ... Forrest creates this world, molds and shapes it into a tangible sphere of imagination where anything and everything is possible. It sucks you deep into the depths of The Shade where vampires rule and humans are the prey, but one girl's stands to change it all. I'm enamored by the connection between Derek and Sofia as well as the intertwining pasts and futures of the characters around them. Hats off to Bella Forrest and good God give us the third book soon!"

"Brilliant follow-up in this addicting series!! A Shade of Blood is a gritty, sexy, emotion-ridden return to this captivating world of vampires, and I was hooked from start to finish as I devoured every word! ... The intensity between Sofia and Derek was amplified thanks to their emotions being so close to the surface, and every moment they shared together just had my pulse racing ... My heart ached and my stomach was twisted in knots for virtually the entire story, and by the time the huge jaw-dropping twist came at the end I was desperate for more! It's once again going to be a torturous wait for the next book as I grow increasingly nervous about what lies ahead, but A Shade of Vampire has definitely become one of my favorite series!"

"Absolutely captivating. A Shade of Blood, book 2 of the A Shade of Vampire series by Bella Forrest, blew this series wide open. I read book 1 back in February and found it to be a very impressive introduction to a fresh new YA Paranormal Romance series. I expected this installment to be good but it went beyond that, it pulled me in and never let go ... A Shade of Blood is a fascinating, full speed ahead rollercoaster ride that you'll find hard to put down. There is no 'supporting cast', I found myself wanting to know more and more about every single character I was introduced to. The combination of romance, betrayal, action and one surprise reveal after another makes for an exciting tale."

*** may have spoilers because this is book 2 *** After spending time with Derek in The Shade, Sofia decides she has feelings for Derek. Derek knows that he loves Sofia and knows the only way to keep her safe is to send her back to her home. Sofia longs for home and her best friend Ben. She has never had a "real" family, but Ben's family has been her family since she was very young. Crazy things are happening at the Shade and Sofia seems to be in the middle of it all. Some believe she is the answer to a prophecy made hundreds of years ago. Derek knows that he must send Sofia back home to keep her safe. While home she and Ben give their relationship a "real' try. Yet, Sofia knows that her heart belongs to Derek. Whether it is good for her or not. She is being pulled in so many different directions. When Derek's sister comes searching for her to help save the Shade, Sofia realizes that her real home will always be at the Shade with Derek. Again, this book drew me in. It was a quick listen and so much fun. The narrators are so wonderful. It's fun to hear the characters from different people. The story flows from the first book to this book very well. I love the the world that Forrest has brought to life in this series so far. I am excited to finish the series.

I have enjoyed the entire series... from romance, to funny, to heart break, to achievement. I never write about the books in my comments as I do not want to give anything away... but this series is a MUST read!!

I had all kinds of emotions reading this book. At times, I hated Derek. We see his evil side, which is understandable. He's a vampire afterall. He's not entirely civil, but not entirely uncivilized either. There is an untamed beastly nature to him. Sophia keeps him tame. I don't think she should have ever left The Shade, but by doing so I think it woke her up and strengthened her. Ben is not an option for me. I don't think he's good for Sophia, and I hope he doesn't cause more trouble for her and The Shade. I'm kind of hoping he hooks up with one of the other characters. I think he'll get to know this person pretty well, so we'll see. Fingers crossed! A Shade of Blood by Bella Forrest was kindly provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.

When I first got A Shade of Blood, I was surprised and pleased that the novel was double the first novella. Yay! More Derek and Sofia! I thought. Just like I asked for in my A Shade of Vampire review. But I ended up being a bit disappointed. To start on a positive note, there was definitely more Derek and Sofia, which I was pleased with, and also a few chapters from Ben’s and Lucas’s point of view as well. I actually found this intriguing. I liked know what was happening with other character and how their thoughts added to the plot, eventually effecting Derek and Sofia in different ways. I also liked learning more about Sofia and Ben’s past relationship together as friends and how that built over time. I also loved all the secrets that were revealed. Some of which I expected, some of which took me completely by surprise. All of them adding new twists and turns for the series to take. Here’s the down sides for me. First, the novel seemed to be written in a rush. There were several things that were plainly inaccurate, events that were disconnected from the plot, and sudden turnarounds in characters’ attitudes that I couldn’t figure out. Second, the timeline was wacky. An example would be the fact that there was prom, which is usually in April or May, and then a chapter or two later, there was a big football championship game, which usually occurs in December. Needless to say, I was completely lost. But the biggest disappointment was the fact there was no climax. I was waiting and waiting and the story just ended. True, it ended on a fascinating note, but not one that is climatic. Honestly, in my opinion, A Shade of Blood is what I would consider just a bridge to the next novel. Considering that this is one of the few vampire novels I actually like, I will still continue reading A Shade of Vampire series. I just hope in the next novel there’s more of a climax to the plot.
