Loving her wasn't what he'd promised...

Hayden Hawkins made a deathbed promise to his brother Ian: Hayden would watch over Ian's son Nick, and the boy's mother, Ronni. Despite Hayden's initial feelings for Ronni, everything changed when she captured--then broke--Ian's heart. Hayden's avoided her since.
Now Nick's in trouble and needs Hayden's guidance. It's time to keep his promise. But getting close to Ronni stirs up old emotions, not all of them good. Then there's the new chemistry they're both feeling.
The last thing Ronni needs is to get involved with former Marine Hayden, notoriously known as the love 'em and leave 'em member of the Hawkins family. Not that he'd want her anyway. Her own husband hadn't wanted her...the cheating husband she'd intended to divorce before an IED in the Middle East blew up her entire life, trapping her in a prison of the vows he'd broken.
Hayden can't help but feel for her. She's not the woman he thought she was. She's so much more.
She deserves happiness.
But neither of them can see how that's possible.

Beatifil story. Ronnie was such a beautiful person who gave so much to those she loved but forget to care about herself.

Not sure if that's fair? It did not meet the first 2 books standards by any means. The story was good but not so worthy of 5 stars but nevertheless I enjoyed it immensely. It'seems been a great while since an Author grasped my attention the way she did. I will read any future books that she may published down the line.

Hayden was there for Ronni and her son. He helped her to really enjoy life and be happy. Hayden used to be the man who only stayed with a woman for one month but when Ronni came back into their lives and he really got to Know her he fell in love. Ronni was married and her husband cheated on her a lot and she found out. She told him she wanted a divorce when he was deployed when she seen a video of him with another woman after promising he wouldn't ever cheat on her again and he has a bad accident. Very good story and I love how the family sticks together and are there for each other.

I loved Greg & Shannon's story so much I immediately purchased the next two books, A Family to Keep and A Promise to Keep. Susan's ability to pull you into the story and truly illustrate the family with words was exceptional. I enjoyed all three books and look forward to learning more about the Hawkins family. Finn and Amelia may be my favorite story thus far!

Susan Gable does a wonderful job developing her characters and storylines. I absolutely love the Hawkins family! Susan does an incredible job writing stories about some very intense real life situations. This family is full of strong, faithful and loving individuals that are so supportive of each other. This is the 3rd Hawkins Family book but is easily read without having read the others first. I can't put Susan's books down and once I finish one I can't wait for the next one. I voluntarily read an ecopy of this book from the author for an honest review.

First, let me say how much I like the Hawkins family and the women they love. Strong, independent, and trust-worthy, the men of the family will make your heart pound and admiration for the women. A strong family with every day problems, they're not a fairy tale family, but realistic with dynamics, issues, and drama. Ex-Marine Hayden, now a high school teacher, faces a situation where he would rather dance with devil than make nice with Ronni. Ronnie's the girl he once wanted before brother Ian stepped in. Watching Hayden come to terms with his feelings and issues gives the reader a look into the real Hayden. Through counseling Nick, Hayden comes to recognize the good in Ronni and the situations she faced. Nick is holding a hurtful secret close, protecting his mom. Seeing Nick grow through this story was wonderful; he's not a bad kid just a typical teenager; full of hormones and mouth. I saw myself in some of his attitudes. Ronni, as well, has issues and revelations to face. Watching Ronni struggle with her permanent vegetative state husband, Scott, who came back from the Iraq war broken, made my heart bled for her. His escapades overseas were a betrayal, the struggle to raise a teenager, and earn a living, overwhelming to Ronni. I wondered if I could have been as kind and gentle as she was after the things he had done. Hayden noticed Ronni and Nick shut down when to came to talking about Scott; something's up with this shut down. Bringing Ronni back into the family, would not be easy, however, Hayden set his mind to keeping his promise to Ian. Love's in the air. To reduce the intense emotions of the serious side of this book, Gable included laughter; I thought Hayden's problems with his spandex Captain Chemo suit so funny. Then, the family name for him was also hilarious; want everyone to know some bit of news, just tell Hayden. Oh, and when Nick...no you will have to read the book. In concluding my romance book review of A Promise To Keep, I found a wonderful romance with pacing in line with the length of the book, it did not lag or bog down. Gable included several plot lines, as well as, well-developed characters. This book has an intense love scene, which I did not find offensive. A Promise To Keep has a lot of heartache but also a lot of love; you will not regret buying this book. I received this book from the author and chose to voluntarily review the book.

A Semper Fi Love. 5*. Ronnie has had it tough; her first love died on her, her second cheated on her but she feels tied to him due to him having been seriously injured. Hayden, who saw his brother's heart broken by a woman, protects his by having a sell by date on his relationships. The two haven't seen each other for 13 years but are forced together when her son/his nephew gets in trouble with the law. A beautiful story with well rounded and believable characters. Highly recommended. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

This is book three of this great series about the Hawkins family. Each book in the series draws you in more and more, too the love this family as for each other and for the people, they find along the way. I was looking forward to reading Hayden's story as we have already had a glimpse into his life in the other books, we have already heard the story about their brother Ian death which happened many years ago. Can these two fight their feeling and the past to overcome what they want or need? I received a free copy of the book and I voluntarily wrote an honest review. Another great book by Susan Gable that will have you feeling so many things at once. Her characters are so loving and full of emotions you just want to give them a big hug. If you have not read any book in this series I recommend you do so you can grab the first one “ A hero to Keep” for free you won't regret reading this great thought provoking and loving stories.

I recently “discovered” Ms Gable in book 2 of this series titled A Family to Keep, so I was hoping this one would be just as good. I was not disappointed. It’s a story filled with a complex plot as well as complex characters. This story centers around Hayden and Ronni. Hayden Hawkins made a promise to his dying 19 year old brother that he would look after the girlfriend, Ronni and son, Nick. Though the Hawkins family love and have embraced their relationship with Nick, Ronni has not been included. They felt he had abandoned Ian when he needed her most. That is, until 13 years later when Ronni calls Hayden for help. Nick has been arrested and the court has suggested a “big brother”. Since Hayden , an ex- Marine , is now a teacher, and not only was close to Ian but also to Ronni in their youth, she feels he will help her with Nick. It’s a story that will touch your heart. It’s full of family conflicts and obstacles, of moments that you will question yourself wondering what would you do if put in that position. Through Hayden, the author reminds us that life is not black or white , but rather many shades of gray. It’s interesting how feelings and viewpoints change and a reminder that in the end family support and love, can really redeem us and enrich our lives. Another winner by this talented author. I was gifted this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
