Heather Graham consistently creates characters you love and character you love to hate. A PERFECT OBSESSION marks a return to Finnegan's. Old characters, new characters, and a new twisted serial killer. The race to catch the killer takes the reader to underground crypts and forgotten burial grounds of old New York City. This is another edge-of-your-chair read.

There is never any doubt, when it comes to Heather Graham, that I will grab her book without hesitation. Even a bad book by Heather Graham is a good book and I would definitely recommend A Perfect Obsession. Kieran Finnegan, a psychologist, also works at the family pub and shares a bed with her FBI guy, Craig Frasier. He knows to keep tabs on her because trouble seems to find her…or does she find it? A model/actress was murdered just around the corner from Finnegan’s, but nobody thought it was connected to the family…until her brother, Kevin, told her his secret. Someone wanted her found. “Living art.” It’s easy to figure out that Kieran is Irish. She has three brothers. They are quick to defend and protect her, since she’s prone to finding trouble to get into. We have a headstrong woman, a hunky cop, mystery and dead bodies on display in mausoleums that haven’t seen the light of day in decades, but… I’m not sure what’s going on, but I’m just not getting into this like I do most of her work. Am I having an off day? Or is it because it’s an ARC and will be tidied up before publishing. I think it will get better. You’ll need to check out A Perfect Obsession to figure it out for yourself. I feel on edge. I keep thinking…waiting…for “the moment”…when the monster reaches out from under the bed and grabs me. Heather has created a sense of menace from the serial killer. I can’t put my finger on the villain. Have I met him? Uh Oh. I think I know who it is and we have a big problem. I started out having a hard time getting into the story. I don’t know why. It has all the elements I require for a thrilling read. I rarely give up on a book, and I sure wasn’t going to give up on a Heather Graham book. And it is worth sticking with. As usual, she leaves me wanting more and I can hardly wait to pick up another one of her stories. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of A Perfect Obsession by Heather Graham.

A serial killer is at large in New York City. Bodies of beautiful young women are being found in mausoleums and underground tombs. They have been stabbed int he heart, dressed in a white gown and holding a rose. FBI Agent Craig Frasier is leading the investigation. Kieran Finnegan, a psychologist, and Frasier's girlfriend are working together. When older bodies are found, they discover that whoever the killer is .. he's been doing this for years. And when an actress is found in a catacomb close to where Kieran works he fears for her safety. All the victims have one thing in common .. they are all beautiful ... and perfect. Their killer is obsessed with female perfection ... and Kieran has caught his eye. Heather Graham is fantastic when it comes to Romantic Suspense. The suspense starts on page 1 and ratchets up, up, up until the surprising and violent ending. I love how the characters interact with each other. Kiernan has 2 brothers, one of whom is her twin. They are very close and will safeguard their family with whatever it takes. Craig is an only child and although he understands that family is important, there are times he looks at them all and can only imagine what it would be like to have siblings. Kieran and Craig met in Book 1 of this series .... FLAWLESS. Although the second book, A PERFECT OBSESSION does very well as a stand alone. No spoilers in Book 2. Many thanks to the author / Harlequin (US & Canada) / Netgalley for the digital copy. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Title: A Perfect Obsession - New York Confidential Book 2 Author: Heather Graham Publisher: Harlequin/Mira Published: 3-28-2017 Pages: 333 Genre: Mystery, Thrillers & Suspense Sub-Genre: Crime Serial Killers; Murder; Police Procedurals ISBN: 9780778319870 ASIN: B01HB9Q7R2 Reviewed For NetGalley and Harlequin Reviewer: DelAnne Rating: 4.5 Starts A supermodel is posed by the killer in an old crypt. Staging the scenes that Kieran Finnegan a forensic psychologist, is consulting with the FBI and finds more and more of. The story brings the Finnegan clan into the spotlight and FBI Agent Craig Frazier. As the body count rises Kieran begins to become the focus of the killer. Can they find him before she is found posed in death as the next victim. Heather Graham has always been an author that drew me. She is one of the few I will go out of my comfort zone of reading material for. She uses words to draw mental pictures for her readers. Using Strong well defines characters that have you following along closely to ensure you do not miss any of the clues hidden throughout the story. Fast moving but with the ability to keep readers on the edge of their seats until the final reveal. My rating of "A Perfect Obsession" is 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Although A Perfect Obsession is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. There are minor references to past situations but they don’t have much impact on the interpretation of this book. A Perfect Obsession centers around FBI Agent Craig Frasier and his Psychologist girlfriend Kieran Finnegan as they try to find a serial killer that has likely been operating in the Northeast U.S. for several years. Most of the action takes place in New York City and there is a lot of history involved that mainly focuses on how the dead have been buried over the past several centuries. Luckily, the history lesson doesn’t turn out to be so excessive that it ruins the flow of the book. The killer has a certain style and it goes on display when he leaves a body in the basement of a new nightclub where an old crypt is being excavated. The list of suspects seems to grow longer and longer as the book progresses and I still wasn’t absolutely sure who did it. Heather Graham does an excellent job of showing how Craig and Kieran must balance their professional and personal lives within their relationship without sacrificing either. They have a pleasant flow between them while Craig makes it a point to try and keep Kieran safe without making her seem like she is defenseless. She has a habit of stumbling onto evidence and putting herself in harm’s way. Craig is a capable investigator and he is also well respected by the rest of the Finnegan clan who also happen to own a centuries old bar that’s adjacent to the initial crime scene. Consequently, the bar acts as the meeting place for all potential suspects. Without giving too much away, I will say that the suspense was built up rather well and I never felt like the pace slowed down at all. The murders were sort of gruesome but not particularly over the top. I felt like the writing was very realistic and nothing was so far fetched that I couldn’t see it happening in real life. That’s generally what I like to see in a Romantic Suspense. All in all, I am definitely a fan. If there are other books to come in this series, I look forward to reading them. **Received a copy from Harlequin and reviewed voluntarily.**
