He was just supposed to be a sperm donor...

Desperate to save her daughter's life, Dr. Amelia Young will do whatever it takes, including show up on the doorstep of the sperm donor who made Jordan's life possible in the first place.

Chef Finn Hawkins is taken aback by the woman in his kitchen, asking for a donation of genetic material like a cup of sugar. Anonymously donating as a college student was impulsive. Crazy. But how can he refuse to help save the life of the thirteen-year-old daughter he's never met?

Jordan Young has ideas of her own and fate's got plans for all of them. When Jordan runs off to meet her father, Amelia's trip to retrieve her takes an unexpected twist.

They're not supposed to be a family. But Finn finds himself longing for exactly that.

Can he keep this unexpected family, forged in a desperate attempt to save Joran's life?

Or will the pressure drive them apart?

About the Author

Susan Gable was born with a book in her hand.

Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration, but not by much. Her love of books goes back to her preschool days, when books arrived at her house from the Weekly Reader Book Club. Some of them even had records so she could listen to the stories! (Remember records?)

Both of Susan’s parents are voracious readers, and they infected her as well.

Susan shared her love of reading (and Weekly Reader!) as an elementary teacher for ten years, then turned to writing after a year of homeschooling her son caused her to nearly lose what was left of her mind. Writing, it turns out, is cheaper than therapy, and homeschooling is far harder than teaching other people’s kids.

That son is now grown. (Susan’s not sure how that happened, as she feels no older than the day she first started writing.)

Susan’s books have been Golden Heart and Rita ® Award finalists, been recognized by Romantic Times nominations for Best Superromance of the Year, and she’s won numerous awards, including the National Readers’ Choice Award. She’s been praised by readers and reviewers alike for her ability to tell emotionally compelling stories that make them laugh and cry.
Close to a half million copies of her books have been sold worldwide.

I found out why this book got excellent reviews. Sure, the author is talented. It’s an easy read but not juvenile. Yes, our “heroine” did something silly, which is galling but seems to be norm in this genre. Lovely and brave young girl. But the reason for the great reviews is our “hero.” What a guy! And he can cook!!! And it’s no secret that the reason we read these books is because of the male characters, guys that every woman wants but can’t find on the street. If an author can create strong male characters, she’ll get you every time. Truly enjoyed this book.

I loved Greg & Shannon's story so much I immediately purchased the next two books, A Family to Keep and A Promise to Keep. Susan's ability to pull you into the story and truly illustrate the family with words was exceptional. I enjoyed all three books and look forward to learning more about the Hawkins family. Finn and Amelia may be my favorite story thus far!
