Fast paced and heartwarming

I loved this book. I have an ambivalence toward pit bulls, but this was an exception! Following Bella as she persevered was so captivating. @

Best heartwarming story showing that the breed or size of a dog does not matter, but the personality.

This book was very hard for me to read. Not from the way it was written, but because of the subject matter. Having lost two dogs too young a couple of years ago, I guess I'm ultra-sensitive to dogs in peril or being hurt. It's why I can't stomach when friends share articles on Facebook about animal abuse. And why I'm probably a helicopter parent with my current two dogs. Anyway, in the novel, I know that things are going to (eventually) turn out ok for Bella when she gets lost and is trying to find her way back home, but I just want to give her comfort and security right away. I don't want her to go through any trauma or feel pain or sorrow. All that said, the book is excellently written. W. Bruce Cameron gets inside Bella's head and expertly tells the story from a dog's point of view, from puppyhood to adulthood. It's written in a manner as if told from a child's point of view. They don't understand the world around them or what's going on, but by telling us what they see, we understand what's going on. There were just a handful of times when I was a bit thrown off by the choice of words the author used. I felt like they were "too big" to be used by the dog (or a child). Other than that, the author had a clear grasp of dogs and their thoughts. It was clear he had raised his own dogs before.

Perfect for animal lovers After reading A Dog’s Way Home for my English class, it was easy to give it five stars: it made me love dogs more than ever. Perfect for animal lovers, not only is the book about dogs, but it is also told in a dog’s perspective, which is a unique touch that is not commonly seen in dog books. The book is extremely interesting, with plot twists and conflicts that keep the reader constantly hooked and on the edge of their seat. Although some people might argue that because the book is told through the eyes of a dog named Bella, that it is hard to understand what is happening in the story. However, the book’s greatest value is that it gives a different narrative than that of ordinary dog books. In fact, because the story is told from a dog’s view, it gives the reader a better understanding of how a dog might feel, how their own dogs behave, and why they act the way they do. It was fascinating to read and see just how a dog might feel and why, and it has given me a more educated understanding on the way my own dogs behave. I highly recommend A Dog’s Way Home to any animal lover interested in a unique story about dogs. It is filled with heartwarming moments and a new understanding of the true love of “Man’s Best Friend.”

The story is sweet and pulls at one's heartstrings . There is a bit of The Incredible Journey and a bit of A Dog's Purpose to it. I loved that both cats and dogs are highlighted even though the main character and narrator is a dog named Bella. Just like the author's other books, the story is told from a dog's perspective so the writing style is short sentences, not a huge vocabulary and a bit childlike which makes this a good book for any age and those who might have a lower reading level. That is not to say that I did not enjoy this book, because I did. It is a bit different from the others I have read because this was one dog and one life, but what a life. Several subjects were brought up and high current. The discrimination of Pitbull type dog breeds, the problems of feral animals, how they are treated and the fact that many animals are just abandoned as well as Service Animals for both physical and emotional support. Bella's story is wonderful. She is an abandoned dog who is taken in by her person, Ethan. It turns out that not only can she sense when a seizure is coming on, but has wonderful senses and is able to provide comfort to those in distress. The story is told from her point of view stating that she just wants to be with her person and have a purpose. Her journey when she is separated from Ethan is amazing. It has a lot of adventure, side trips, and new people along the way. There is humor in just the right places, action, mystery, some sadness but overwhelming happiness as well as hope. I did need a few tissues along the way, but it was not too bad. Being a dog lover, I loved this book. It was well plotted with characters that I both loved and disliked. For every animal lover there are those who don't like animals and some of those are in this book. If you enjoy animal stories, pick this one up. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

You know when a book totally grabs your attention from the first few pages, you know that this will be a book that will stay with you long after reading it! I never read the first book in this stand alone series but you really don't need to since each book is different from the rest but they have the same idea of having the dog tell his or her side of the story. Having recently lost two dogs in the last 6 months, I knew going into this that it's more than likely that I'm going to cry over it but I never expected what part that would hit me the hardest. It was the part in the very beginning when Bella found herself drawn to the cats that got to me since one of my dogs thought he was a cat even though he was a hundred pound Labrador Retriever! I don't want to spoil anymore than that but it was like coming full circle when Bella finds herself, looking for Lucas in the deep woods with a unexpected ally! There was this one person in this book that I hated and you will discover who that is for what they do, even what they try to do in the end but we had to have a villain in this story and they fit it well. Just reading this book has made me go back and read the first book (A Dog's Purpose) in which a review will be coming soon for that heart-breaking book! It's going to be interesting to watch this movie when it comes out in January 2019 and see what is different and how they will make certain things happen that I think might be impossible to achieve but then again, the magic of Hollywood can make anything happen!! Thank You to W. Bruce Cameron for this heart-stopping adventure book that will touch any dog lover's hearts to the soul!! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley!

Oh! How I loved this book! Bruce Cameron makes dogs, cats all have a voice. This is a beautiful novel of love and hope. "Never judge a book by its cover "and "Never give up" is the mantra here. A wonderful message for all of us human beings. Bella the main character, found living under a house with a mother cat, falls in love with Lucas her "person". Yet, when she is unfairly taken from him, she never gives up! Fair warning: You are going to need a box of tissues!

This was the fastest read I have ever had my hands on. I couldn't put it down. I absolutely LOVE Bella's unique and funny language which brings great laughter throughout the read. It's heartwarming, suspenseful, and hits home on its originality and realism. I only wish I would have started it earlier in the day so I could have read the whole thing in one sitting instead of two. Looking forward to what comes next from W. Bruce Cameron.

Just finished reading another of W. Bruce Cameron's wonderful books. A Dog's Way Home highlights the plight of a pitbull mix dog in a town that does not allow this breed of dog. Bella was rescued by her owner from living under a house that was to be demolished, only to be separated from her owner due to the breed specific law. Her many "adventures" to stay alive and try to get across the mountains and back to her owner kept this reader feeling a variety of emotions as I followed what happened to her in her travels. I could not put this book down and when I did have to stop for a while, I couldn't wait to see what was to happen next. A Dog's Way Home is another great story told from the viewpoint of the dog and shows the persistence of an animal when searching for the safety and love of her owner.

I need to stop being surprised just how good Cameron truly is. I have loved all his books – from the No. 1 best-seller "A Dog's Purpose" to his "Repo" series and everything in between, but his latest, "A Dog's Way Home," is as much a delight as anything he's done. Once again, Cameron is telling a story from a dog's point of view, and he doesn't disappoint or, most importantly, repeat himself. There are certainly those elements that fans of Cameron crave – the humor, the warmth, the emotion, and a gosh-darn good dog, but there is also a call to arms in this book, which deals with unfair laws in some parts of the country that are outlawing pitbulls. What Cameron always does best in his books is to drive home a message, and he skillfully does that here. You will pull for Bella every step of the way in "A Dog's Way Home," and you will feel strongly about many of the human characters, too, which may be the best part of the book. Cameron has always made readers love the characters in his book – be they human or canine, but "A Dog's Way Home" in, however strange this may sound in a book about a dog, it was the humans who ended up starring in this great wag-of-the-tail tale. Dog lovers will see a little bit of themselves in the various humans who, in their own ways, loved Bella, needed Bella, found comfort in Bella. It was a joy to read this book. Pure joy. ... If you need a great book to read, and one that will make you love your dog just a little bit more, get this book.
