A Dog's Promise continues the story of Bailey, the good dog whose journey started in A Dog's Purpose and continued in A Dog's Journey (both major motion pictures). This time, Bailey is joined by Lacey, another very special dog, who helps Bailey fulfill his promise over the course of several lives.

This charming, wise canine soul brings joy, laughter, and comfort as he unites a family fractured by life's inevitable obstacles. I received a complimentary copy of A Dog's Promise from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. First of all, I hate to say that I am kicking myself right now, because I already owned 4 books in this series, which I have never read. (I bought a couple of them years ago and one was donated to my lending library.) I had not read them because I am generally not "a dog book person". I have read all of the tearjerker classics and I was over it. This does not mean that I didn't cry at several points during this book--because I did. The good news is that I didn't cry for long, and I wasn't depressed for days after finishing the book, because it ended on a high note and left me with an overall "life is good" feeling. After reading A Dog's Promise, I want to not only read, but also own this whole set! I absolutely LOVED Cooper (Bailey/Riley/Oscar). He was a great dog--but an even better story-teller. Truthfully, even without the very clever and unique connecting thread of the dog's consciousness, the storylines are just wonderful. I probably would have liked reading them either way...but from the dog's point of view--well that was just precious!! (Information from this point of view is also vague enough to keep me wondering until I can gather more details later in the book...) This novel definitely kept my attention, was difficult to put down, and made me fall in love with the human characters. (I kind of even have a new appreciation for my own dog--look at her in a different light. I also have a date with several books from my own shelf for my summer reading at the end of this school year.) A special thank you to W. Bruce Cameron for some amazing new perspective literature. I now see what all the hype has been about!! Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

I love this good-hearted, loyal dog and I am so happy this book brings him back to help another family. This is the perfect sequel for Bailey and his purpose!

This book was received as an ARC from Macmillan-Tor/Forge - Forge Books in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own. Being a huge fan of a Dog's purpose and a Dog's Journey and Bailey is such a heartwarming dog that you could not help but follow Bailey along in his adventures and see the joy he brings to everyone he meets. This time he is joined by Lacey who is just as sweet if not a sweeter dog than Bailey and Bailey stops at nothing to protect and look out for Lacey and have them take the journey together making a difference in people's lives. I love the message this series has created and a dog's promise does a wonderful job reflecting that. I know our community will love and be looking forward to the release of a dog's promise and wonder when the release of the movie will be as well. We will consider adding this title to our Adult Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

The prologue ex[lained why I try to offer to so many who have grieved their beloved 4 legged Angel, I knew this was going to be another" hit out of the park by Bruce Cameron. As I started reading first thing yesterday morning I found I could NOT put it down! Suddenly, phone calls went to voice mail, appointments got canceled so that I could read to the surprise ending, last night!!! This book tells the stories that we hear every day in my statewide non-profit, of how our beloved fourlegged angels keep us working through our problems, our challenges even our crisis. When people don't or won't turn to other people, dogs help them get through the next five minutes, they the next and next. This is the BEST Brued Cameron book yet and I can't wait for the third movie to come out of this trilogy to complete my personal video collection as I now have my Baily, Bailey, Baliey Book series!

I remember the first time I read “A Dog’s Purpose”, the first in the series of three books written by W. Bruce Cameron about a dog named Bailey. The book had just come out and it was revolutionary in that it was narrated by a dog and gave insight into how dogs view the world and the people around them. At the time, I was a new dog person, having adopted my first pup several years before and had added a second one to our family. My dogs were still young then and I wasn’t thinking about the end of their lives. I loved the book for the narrative and the possibilities of my dogs and I understanding each other on a different level. Through the years, I thought often about the book as my dogs aged and I realized my time with them was short. “A Dog’s Journey” followed “A Dog’s Purpose” and I loved the continuing saga of the dog originally known as Bailey. By the time the “A Dog’s Purpose” movie came to theaters, I was reeling from the loss of my original dog only seven months before. When we lost her, I immediately thought of the lessons I had learned through the two Cameron books I had read and was certain I would be meeting my pup again some day. The books were cathartic to me - they offered a healing I hadn’t expected. I had hoped that Cameron’s second book in the series, “A Dog’s Journey” wasn’t the end of the saga. After all, one thing I’ve learned to believe is that the end isn’t truly the end. So, I was excited to learn that “A Dog’s Promise” was in the works and even more excited that I received an Advanced Reader’s copy from the publisher. Without spoiling the end of “A Dog’s Journey” for those who haven’t discovered it yet, “A Dog’s Promise” does continue the life of the original Bailey, now having been known by many other names throughout his lives. Centered on one extended family rather than the multiple families within the prior two books, “A Dog’s Promise” fulfills a directive from Ethan, Bailey’s “boy”. The book contains all the warmth and emotion I’ve come to expect from W. Bruce Cameron along with life lessons, heartache and heartbreak, family challenges, misunderstandings and reconciliations. Some of society’s hotbed issues are included, giving insight and awareness without being preachy. There are surprises throughout but Cameron saves the main ones for the end of the book which wraps the story in a beautiful bow. With a wink and a smile, Bailey has, indeed, both found his Purpose and kept his Promise. It’s a lovely story and another reminder of the important roles that dogs play in our lives. I’m recommending this book to those who have read and loved Cameron’s other books in the series. To those who haven’t yet found the series, I recommend starting with “A Dog’s Purpose” which makes the reading of “A Dog’s Promise” that much more poignant.

Another wonderful book by W. Bruce Cameron! I received an Advanced Reader Copy of A Dog's Promise (A Dog's Purpose #3) from the publisher to review so I was fortunate to get to read this new book in W. Bruce Cameron's A Dog's Purpose series before its publication date. A Dog's Promise is the third book about Bailey, the very special dog whose beautiful story began in A Dog's Purpose and continued in A Dog's Journey. I first met and fell in love with Bailey when I received A Dog's Purpose as a gift the week it was published in July of 2010. It touched my dog lover's heart deeply. I have reread it and its sequel, A Dog's Journey, many times and I have been waiting for this continuation of Bailey's story as an Angel Dog. I knew that A Dog's Promise would be a wonderful book but I didn't anticipate that I would love it even more than I loved A Dog's Purpose and A Dog's Journey, my two all-time favorite books. It was so worth waiting for. Now I have three all-time favorite books!

I was thrilled to receive an Advanced Readers Copy from the publisher. Out of the 3 Dog's Purpose Books, this was by far my favorite. So many surprises, twists and turns, especially at the end. If you love dogs, or know someone who does, this is a must read. Angel Dogs are real!! Keep them coming Mr. Cameron!!
