Overview

English Fairy Tales is a classic collection of 43 traditional stories that describe the fantastic adventures of witches, princes, giants, princesses, and numerous talking animals. This is not the plain, watered-down versions with happy endings; these are the darker counterparts. With classics like Jack the Giant Killer, The Three Bears, Tom Thumb, The Three Little Pigs, and Jack and the Beanstalk, as well as lesser-known stories filled with action, magic, ghosts, imps, fairies, and lost love. Delve into the dark magical world of make-believe.

Darker Stories with lines such as:

"My wicked mother slew me, my dear father ate me." (The Rose-Tree)

...she instantly gave him such a sound bludgeoning that she almost broke every bone in his skin. (Mr Vinegar)

"And there sits my sister who drowned me..." (Binnorie)

"Fee-fi-fo-fum,
I smell the blood of an Englishman,
Be he alive, or be he dead,
I'll have his bones to grind my bread." (Jack and the Beanstalk)

...the pot tumbled over, and scalded her to death. (Titty Mouse and Tatty Mouse)

"Though here you lodge with me this night,
You shall not see the morning light,
My club shall dash your brains outright!" (Jack the Giant-Killer)

"I smell the blood of a Christian man,
Be he dead, be he living, with my brand,
I'll dash his brains from his brain-pan." (Childe Rowland)
