Beating the rake, and then your opponents are the keys to success at low buy-in poker cash games. You have to become a decent poker player to make enough money to cover the rake, or like 90 percent of poker players, you'll (on average) leave the casino as a loser of money. When you can consistently take home more money than you started with, you can outplay your opponents even more, and perhaps make some serious money.

Twice a month he still plays the small buy-in at his local casino, and (oddly enough) he wins just as much there as he does at the $300 to $500 buy-in which is his regular game.
