100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls is lovely hardback book with of biographies of one hundred different women of faith. The book has an incredible variety of women. Each of their stories is presented in a two page spread with their pictures on one side and biography on the other. The book includes lovely women like Florence Nightingale, Elizabeth Prentiss, Rosa Parks, Henrietta Mears, and Naomi from the Bible. I found the women were from a variety of backgrounds, time periods and walks of life. I learned a great deal reading the stories and was inspired by their lives. Both of my daughters loved this book. Everytime I tried to read this book it was missing because my 13 and 10 year old daughters kept borrowing it. My 13 year old said she liked how at the end of each biography there was a Bible verse that connected with each of the women’s stories. This is a wonderful book that would make a lovely gift for a girls ages nine and up. I highly recommend 100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls. I was given this book by the publisher and not required to write a review.

I Am Excited About This Book 100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls is an exciting book for girls. The 100 women of faith featured in the book are from all walks of life and are picked from Bible days and continues down through early history to today. It presents a one page account of each woman and tells how each one has made a difference in the world and includes a one page artist concept of each woman. A scripture is included at the bottom the story page. The book is a great inspiration for girls to live the opportunities in their world to make a difference. This book is a beautifully designed hardcopy and has a ribbon to mark the page. It is a book that children and teens would be attracted to. It would make a wonderful Christmas present. It’s going in my church library so I can share it with as many young ladies as possible. This book is a great way to show the little girl in your life that God uses women in extraordinary ways! My 10-year old found it really interesting and would ask to read more and more of the ladies’ stories before going to bed. And I confess, I let her stay up later because I was interested too! I learned about many women I knew about already, but several I did not. I love the integrated Bible verse at the end of each story, too, so really the book came to have a devotional quality for us as we read. I strongly recommend this book! It is so important for our daughters to know about extraordinary women who have impacted the kingdom of God. This book presents each woman in a page format so that the readers attention does not stray along with birth and death dates. The graphics are fabulous and pleasing to the eye. My 11 year old daughter has not put this book down and carries it to school to read, which then gives openings to other students to witness to them. ean Fischer's 100 EXTRAORDINARY STORIES FOR COURAGEOUS GIRLS offers hopeful and thought provoking reading for Christian girls. Independent readers of ages 9-12 would be the ideal audience, but certainly girls a bit younger would find interest, perhaps when read with an adult. Each "story" is a condensed single page with an accompanying one page colorful illustration. I would best describe the art style as somewhat cartoonish with large, distinctive eyes for each woman. (Think Disney princess eyes or popular animated movies.) The 100 women are drawn from the Bible, long ago history, and more recent history. Many of the women were missionaries or had their faith challenged. A few, such Joni Eareckson Tada and Bethany Hamilton Dirks are contemporary. When I began the book, I anticipated that I would read one or two per day, but found myself so interested that I often read about 10 to 15 women before setting the book aside. I also kept glancing ahead to see if there were women that I recognized. When I was a public school elementary librarian, I loved finding new nonfiction books that introduced this age group of girls to good role models - women and girls who had made a difference, tried a new path, and used their talents. I am delighted to find a book based on faith showing the same. This would be a lovely gift book, and at this time of year, a perfect stocking stuffer. If you do give 100 EXTRAORDINARY STORIES FOR COURAGEOUS GIRLS, take time to read together with the recipient. Each vignette ends with personal questions, ones that should be discussed. Perhaps the title could be used as a Mother (or Grandmother)-Daughter devotional. With today's bombardment of negative lifestyles and people making poor choices gaining fame, a book like this one is much needed. And I could even see gently giving this title to a pastor/youth pastor whose illustrative stories of faith and courage tend not to include female examples. One note -- many of the historical women lived (and died) during times when Christians were fractured and intolerant of others. It would be good for an adult to discuss that with any young reader. I received a copy of Jean Fischer's book from the publisher. All opinions are mine

Unforgettable tales of women of faith! The book itself is a hard cover, embossed, with very sturdy pages for many a page turning viewing. I was amazed at looking at all the names of the women in this book. So many I had forgotten and they all need remembering and telling to the next generation. Each page spread has a perfect length telling of a woman of faith, her amazing story, and a colorful picture to go along. I love that it gives the places in the Bible (if applicable) to find that story. Even though this is targeted for girls, I enjoyed reading this immensely and am loving sharing it with my three daughters. Everyone needs this encouragement and inspiration!! An amazing collection and a beautiful gift for giving, too. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

This hardcover book of 100 EXTRAORDINARY STORIES FOR COURAGEOUS GIRLS, by Jean Fischer is extraordinary indeed. As I delved deep into these intriguing stories, I learned more about these women. And, all of them were extraordinary in their own way. Each gave of themselves not knowing the outcome. But because of their belief in God they could move mountains. One dealt with a shark attack. One wrote 18, 000 letters. One was actually very shy. One saw something amazing, and one was the first lady of the struggle. And, that is just a few of these amazing stories. Because this book was a very intriguing read, and told so much about these amazing women, I thought it deserved five stars. This book would also make a very good Christmas gift. 100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls by Jean Fischer is a delightful book for all ages. I enjoyed reading the stories of girls and women of the Bible, along with those who lived years after Bible times. They came from all walks of life, poor and rich, single and married, very young and older, healthy and sickly. I was amazed at the faith and courage of these women, with a willingness to follow their heart and the Lord, no matter the danger involved to them. Some died a martyr’s death, and some died a natural death. Each story ended with a challenge to examine my life and attitude, also a Bible verse to encourage. There were many that I did not know, so it was a learning experience for me. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

What a beautiful book with its glossy pages and wonderful illustrations. Would make a wonderful gift for the extraordinary young lady in your life. I plan on gifting my copy to my granddaughter. I enjoyed reading one page stories about Biblical and Historical women whose faith made a lasting example for how we should live our lives. It is encouraging to see strong women who stand on faith to make a difference in the world. Recommended for young ladies ages eight and over. I received a complimentary copy from Barbour Publishing. 100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls is about women that girls can look up to and be challenged by. Included are women from the Bible - like Naaman's servant girl who encouraged Naaman, who suffered from a skin disease, to wash in the dirty Jordan river, when Elisha told him and he was healed. History - Author Catherine Marshall who married a pastor and wrote many books, some even became movies. Even women of today - Bethany Hamilton-Dirks born in 1990 lost her arm while surfing from a shark bite has continued to surf and tell others about it and how God helped her thru the ordeal of it all! Wonderful book I really like this book. It's perfect for introducing some great women from the Bible and history to the young women of this time. I intend to gift this to my granddaughter for Christmas. 100 one-page stories, giving a short history of each lady. Easy reading and easy to understand. I highly recommend this book to all. “I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.”

This book is gorgeous. The illustrations are very attractive and well done. Even better though is the content! My 3 girls (5, 7 and 9) love this book. They love to see all the things women have done. It’s encouraging and inspiring. The range of women included is amazing. There are women who are still alive as well as ancient women who lived 2 thousand years ago. The descriptions are easy enough for my 9 year old to read. Some even my 7 year old can read alone. I love that they have this book to look at and learn from. It’s excellent. I received a copy of this book from the publisher and was under no compulsion to write a review. All thoughts are my own.

Amidst the myriad compilations of famous and notable people, “100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls” stands out in that it highlights specifically women of faith. This includes some women who were not necessarily praiseworthy but who nevertheless provide valuable lessons through their actions. One page is dedicated to each of the one hundred women portrayed alphabetically, alongside which is an illustration of them, and this setup is very advantageous for being brief and for possibly reading this in a devotional style, focusing on one woman per day. The women include Biblical characters as well as historical figures and a few contemporary ones. The Biblical women’s stories include the relevant Scriptures, and all of the stories end with a moral message related to the Bible along with a Scripture quotation. Not all of the stories have happy endings; some of the women were martyred for their faith, and although the author mentions that some were tortured, there are no graphic details. When mature words were used, such as “martyr” or “heresy”, a definition was given, and all of the Scripture references were quoted in easy-to-understand language. This is a beautiful collection of the lives of inspirational women of faith, some of whom have otherwise been lost to the annals of history, and a wonderful book for tweens and young teens. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Isn’t the cover for Jean Fischer’s “100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls” absolutely stunning? It definitely stands out from books in general. This is geared mostly to young girls, but I think this is perfect for any age. I’m an adult and I personally loved it. As you browse through the book, you’ll find 100 women who have extraordinary and courageous to tell. These are women from all throughout history. Many are women from the Bible, historical figures such as Elizabeth Elliott and Jane Austen, and even modern-day women such as Bethany Hamilton-Dirk. Many of these women we have probably heard of while there were several women I have never heard of but enjoyed learning about. Each page is filled with beautiful illustrations and points readers back to God with a thought-provoking lesson. This can be read individually or even incorporated when teaching lessons. Readers will be encouraged and inspired to live courageously for the Lord. This is something I would have cherished as a young girl. While many of these stories don’t go into detail, please read with discretion as many of these stories mention being a martyr. There are also several stories about female pastors which I don’t think is biblical but I enjoyed these stories nonetheless. Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher for my honest review, which I have given. I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.

In this new book author Jean Fischer lists 100 women that she considers extraordinary. Many are from the Bible: Esther, Jochebed, Ruth, Mary, and Noah's wife; many others are from history: Clara Barton, Florence NIghtingale, Harriet Tubman, and Rosa Parks; and some have lived in this century, such as Joni Eareckson Tada, Jackie Pullinger and Ruth Bell Graham. They all led different lives but they all possessed one common trait---they each loved God, they were each women of great faith and they each demonstrated their deep faith by choosing to live courageously. Each person mentioned has been given two pages. One page is devoted to her life story and one page is a color illustration. I believe these creative, colorful images will be especially appealing to young readers and I also think that the one page biography is just enough information to either satisfy the reader's curiosity or to prompt them to want to learn more. It is also helpful that references to the actual Bible stories are given and that there is an appropriate Bible verse at the end of each of the stories. This book targets girls ages 8-12 but I myself enjoyed learning more about these women of faith who chose to love and serve God. This is a beautiful hard-cover book that will be a perfect gift for the young girls in your life! What a wonderful book. 100 unforgettable tales of women of faith. I found this book to be very inspiring. Stories of many women of faith in our history. Very encouraging stories for girls to grow from. Letting them know they can be somebody. Very enjoyable book. Even I learned from it. Great time to read maybe a story of each woman each night at bedtime. If you have little girls be a great book for a gift. A big piece of our history. Well written and illustrations are wonderful.

Wow! What a fantastic book for girls to learn about Biblical & historical women from all different eras that loved the Lord and made a difference. For myself, I learned about women that I had never heard of that stood up for what is right. This book introduces girls to people like Rosa Parks, Joni Eareckson Tada, Florence Nightingale, wives of many famous preachers and missionaries, martyrs throughout the ages, Lottie Moon, Annie Armstrong, Harriet Tubman, and countless Biblical characters such as Mary Magdalene, Rhoda, Abigail, The Proverbs 31 Woman, and so many more. This book was written appropriately for ages 8 and up in a way that they could read about a woman a day. Each day has the Scripture passage the person is in (if they are a Bible character), and all the women have a verse that pertains to their stories at the end of the writing. I would recommend this for homeschoolers to supplement history, a book to read to your daughter every night before bed, or just one for your avid reader daughter. Especially with books like this being put out there with secular heroes who are being praised for all the wrong reasons, this book reminds us of women and their equally important and unique role they have to play in God's kingdom. My heart was truly blessed, and I can promise you, you will get as much out of it as your child. The book is also very attractive with beautiful illustrations, good quality, and a nice bookmark. 100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls I found this book to be an excellent compilation about women and their faith. What I especially liked was the variety of lifestyles and time periods presented in the stories of these women. Each story has the name, time, description and verse making it a delightful portrait. The concise narrative gives just enough information to show the faith and accomplishment of each woman as a result of her passion for God. I think the age group of 11-14 is a good suggestion. The older girls will find it a good synopsis, and fast read as the target audience is closer to the 12-13 age range although as an adult I, too found it to be quite interesting. I highly recommend this book and could see it being an enjoyable read at bedtime or part of a devotional time as a family. Learning about the past and the different walks of life presented is not only encouraging but shows the impact of God's people throughout the ages. This book is geared towards girls 8 and up. I am 65 and I loved it! I learned about women that I have never heard of before. I also learned facts about women that I didn't know before. I learned that Jane Austen is buried at a famous church, not because she was an important author, but because she was well known for serving God. I also learned about Mary McLeod Bethune, The First Lady of the Struggle. President Franklin D. Roosevelt chose her as his adviser to help bring all Americans together as equals, whatever the color of their skin. Mary became known as a great leader. In my mind I can picture these 100 women's names listed in the faith chapter of Hebrews in the Bible. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I kept thinking of all the young girls I want to share it with. It is such an encouraging book about the courage it takes to be a world changer. Each biography is one page in length with an illustration of that woman next to her story. There is a scripture for each of their faith's journey. These stories will help teach girls what it means to walk with Christ. I loved reading each story and I highly recommend this book. 100 Extraordinary Stories for Courageous Girls is a book I got thinking my daughter would love it. However, I’m pleasantly surprised to see how much enjoyment I’m receiving from it as well. It’s a great book that tells about various women in the Bible and in history and the extraordinary things they did. There is an accompanying Bible verse on each page, along with a picture and a short summary. The summary only is one page so it’s easy to read, fast and can be read one per day or all at once. This is a wonderful book and a great gift idea for the holidays for all the special females in your life, especially geared toward younger to middle age girls. I don't think I can say enough great things about this book! Geared toward young girls ages 8 and up but encouraging for older women like me. One hundred women are featured from the Bible, history, and to present day. I recognized many but also learned about women I had never heard about. Each is a one page biography along with a drawing of the person and scripture at the bottom relating to their story and also to inspire those reading. Some of my favorite women were included like Elisabeth Elliot, Ruth Bell Graham, Annie Armstrong, Joni Eareckson Tada, Florence Nightingale and Mary mother of Jesus. These are perfect for one a day devotions. Short but with enough "meat" to think about and chew on until the next day. I'm excited about how this book could encourage many young girls and I'm planning on telling many of my friends with girls and grandgirls to buy it for a gift. My copy will be going to my 8 yr old granddaughter! I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

This devotional book is written for girls but as a mom I was touched by each story. Each woman in the devotional has been used by God in a wonderful way. I know my daughter will be encouraged that no matter what she faces she can count on God. This devotional was so encouraging and reminds us that God has and will continue to work through women of all kinds, ages, and abilities.
