While the Screwtape Letters are a classic, the annotations don't add much - mostly definitions of slightly uncommon words, or of common groups (such as the BBC and communism!) Still, the handful of references to Lewis's sources are quite interesting, so if you don't have a copy of Screwtape, getting the Annotated version is probably worth the extra money. If you do buy, one errata: annotation 2 on page 76 refers the reader to Letter 12 (p69), should be to Letter 17 (p99).

'The Screwtape Letters' is, in my opinion, a classic Christian novel. In it, through reverse logic, a Christian can piece together the attacks of their enemies and produce a plan to fight them. Screwtape, in a seemingly droll, uninterested way, talks freely of how to tempt the human that Wormwood is assigned to, and in these 'letters' reveals the thought process behind each temptation. Though the language is a bit heavy, as it was written many years ago, it nevertheless is an invaluable tool in the Christian's tool belt. It is clear that Lewis thought out each individual letter, and it is incredible that this piece of literature is so potent that it still has relevance today. I would suggest this book to anybody wishing to learn how to thwart the devil's plans and tricks. However, I would also suggest this book to those who are not religiously inclined as well. 'The Screwtape Letters' offers some insight into human behavior that can benefit anybody who reads this book, not just the faithful Christian.
