Who abducted Alice? A small child was abducted while playing in The Hudson Raptor Sanctuary, pitting family against family, and the community against them. Twenty years later the family feud flares as Ruby Hudson reveals the discovery of her childhood friend's locket caught on a branch of an eagle's nest. The discovery dredges up old wounds and leads to one questionable event after another. Cooper Hudson has returned home to check on his brother, thought to be guilty of Alice Walker's disappearance. Will Cooper restore Ruby's faith in God after she has lost all hope in answer to her prayers? The suspense and mysteries continue as Cooper and Ruby attempt to discover answers to 20-year-old questions. Dana Mentink has a gift for creating unpredictable suspense with an underlying thread of faith and hope. Hazardous Homecoming is an excellent example of that gift. The characters throughout this book are realistic and believable with shortcomings and failings, compassion and basic human needs. This was a fast-paced book with unexpected adventure and tragic events that kept me reading until the wee hours of the morning. I admire Dana's strong inspirational threads that run throughout this story of Ruby and Cooper and their families as they have ostracized one another. Cooper's faith is a balm through adversity. Grab a copy of Hazardous Homecoming and prepare for a roller coaster of mystery and suspense! Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed this book! It takes a lot to surprise me because I read tons of books but the ending in this one DID surprise me! Ruby finds some evidence that could help with a 20-year old mystery of the disappearance of her childhood friend, Alice. They were playing in the woods by their homes one day and Alice never came home. Ruby & Alice were so young but Ruby has never forgotten it and it has changed her whole life. Cooper's brother, Peter, was always thought to be the main suspect although he was never charged. Cooper comes back to the area to see if he can help Peter get his life back on track. While there, he decides to help Ruby look into the disappearance of Alice again, even though their families are still feuding. I loved the way they stuck up for their brothers but tried to be open minded about any evidence they found. Their friendship was blossoming into "more than" but they were still fiercely loyal to their families. Accidents (or not) keep happening to them and they know that the killer is probably on to them. What happened to Alice all those years ago? Everyone involved is now involved again and no one is safe! Every time I turned the page, there was a new twist to the story! I really enjoyed having to think about this mystery and liked all the characters. I look forward to the next one in the series!

This was such a good book!!  Dana keeps the reader wanting to turn pages.  Dana did a great job of keeping the reader guessing until the end.  I've read other books by Dana Mentink and this one is just as good as her other ones.  I highly recommend that people should read this book.

Ruby Hudson has lost her best friend and must face the trials of the ‘what if’s’. Twenty years later can new evidence help solve the case or will it tear apart her family and possibly cost her her life? When Cooper Stokes reenters her life can she trust him? No matter how far she tries to push him her heart longs for him. Will they be able to figure things out before it tears them apart? Will she be able to find a place in her heart for Cooper and trust God too? Cooper Stokes just wants to check on his brother, Peter. When the new evidence comes to light can he handle his anger enough to try and prove his brothers innocence. But what if Peter is not so innocent, can he handle the truth? When Ruby and Cooper team up there is a lot of chemistry and intrigue. I love the suspense in this book, the dialogue and not knowing the outcome until Ruby and Cooper find it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes good clean Christian contemporary suspense with some romance in the mix. I was given an ARC copy of this book from the author for my honest opinion.

I thoroughly enjoyed Hazardous Homecoming from beginning to end. It was packed with interesting characters and a very intense mystery ran throughout the story. I really liked Ruby and Cooper. One the one hand, it was such fun to see these two people from feuding families discover that they were both intensely attracted to each other. Seeing their relationship ebb and flow through the story was entertaining. There was great romantic tension between these two. But, also interesting, was the way these two characters dealt with painful situations. Ruby closed up and hardened her heart toward others and toward God when bad things happened. Cooper, on the other hand, exhibited a sort of peace through the struggles that could only come from God. The twenty-year-old mystery of a little girl’s disappearance was at the heart of all of the troubles in this book. It was a very interesting thread running through the book. There were so many possible suspects to choose from and plenty of animosity was flowing between many of the people in this small town. I enjoyed the setting of this book being on a raptor sanctuary and I felt that the little details about the wildlife really added to the story. Hazardous Homecoming was a great read! Thank you to the author for the complimentary copy of this book that I received in exchange for an honest review, which I have given.

When every parent's nightmare becomes reality in the small town of Silver Peak, three families are torn apart and an entire community becomes a home to suspicions. Twenty years have passed, but the small town continues unchanged. Ruby and Cooper must face old allegations together when the case of a long missing child is reopened, implicating both of their brothers and leaving them to decide if they should be friend or foe. To find justice they must face the possibility of someone close to them being guilty of a child's disappearance, someone who wants to keep the secrets of the crime buried. This book kept me intrigued with plot twists that kept me guessing, trying to figure out who committed the unspeakable crime. Sharing Ruby's and Cooper's journey, walking with them through their despair and joy, discovering the well of faith and trust they find within enhanced my own journey through this story from beginning to end. Once I started reading, I didn't want to put the book down. This is a must read story with an unforgettable ending. A completely unique story that will be worth every minute you spend reading it.
