ALONE AT DAWN is a chilling account of the events leading to the most heroic action you can imagine. It details the commitment of a small group of special operators to the preservation of our way of life. If you’ve never heard of Combat Control you absolutely must read this well researched and equally well written story about the most lethal warriors on the battlefield.

Alone At Dawn is a great chronicle of Combat Control and a tribute to John's character. The author's descriptions of Combat Control in John's early career are spot on. As a 20 year Combat Control veteran whose career overlapped John's, I am humbled by the sacrifice and valor of today's CCT. I was blown-away by the boldness of these early missions in the Afghanistan War. While I never had the opportunity to meet John Chapman I am honored to have served in the same brotherhood.

Excellent read. A detailed account of John Chapman and the little known special operations force, the Air Force Combat Controller . Written for both the military and non-military reader, this book puts you in the middle of the battle with these heroes. You won’t be able to put this book down. This book needs to be on the big screen.

As Lori and John's mom, I am definitely biased regarding this book. It took years and many people to finally get all the facts. Then Lori and Dan spent many months writing the story. Anyone who has seen the actual video footage can attest to the accuracy of events. Dan and Lori put every effort into producing a book that is easily understood by all, not just readers with military backgrounds. While a good portion of the book tells how Combat Controllers developed from the early years to present day, it also incorporates aspects of John's life. Lori wanted the world to know the gentle, caring side of her brother --- the person who always put others before himself. Thank you, Lori and Dan, for finally giving me closure.

Alone at Dawn is the most accurate and honest account of the events leading upto the Battle of Takur Ghar. Its honest no holds bar depiction of battle give you a feel for the complexity and dynamic requirements placed on the Combat Controllers on the battlefield. This is also a labor of love written by a Teammate and Sister to honor a most extraordinary man. John Chapman was the person you wanted to know, the man who would stop and check on you or help you become a better person. He was a consumate leader, professional, husband, and father. This story has a mix of history, adventure and intrigue. There has not been a major SOF battle since the begining of Vietnam that has not had a CCT in the mix,. This is a must read!
